Designer & Founder

Stephen Shales has over 28 years of experience in the residential industry. Working directly for architects and custom home builders, Stephen has combined the hands-on experience of his early years with an architectural eye of years of experience designing and co-designing many residential projects. What makes Stephen’s skill set unique is his desire to connect personally with each client. Stephen has found that the best way to design is to understand who will be living in this new architectural space. Additionally, his conviction that all designs should be balanced with the realities of a budget, gives each project the best foundation for success. Stephen is married to Erinn Shales for over 20 years, who has made her childhood fascination with floor plans a gift to the design process. They are both delighted to live in East Tennessee with its generous and open hearted people and breathtaking beauty. When he is not serving his clients, Stephen enjoys reading speculative fiction, working on his 100 year old home and playing board games with his kids.

Consulted Architect As needed: Ralph Walden

Ralph's extensive work alongside builders has granted him valuable understanding regarding the optimal approach for designers to create plans that are truly beneficial on construction sites. With decades of hands-on experience, Ralph Walden has not only designed buildings but also constructed them, establishing himself as a seasoned expert deeply engaged in architectural endeavors across the Southern region.

Consulted Structural Engineer As needed: Andrew Ruffen

Experienced structural engineer with over 10 years of experience in residential, commercial, and industrial construction. Andrew has experience with all conventional structural systems including: wood and metal stud framing, structural steel, reinforced concrete, and post tensioned concrete.

Consulting Designer: Greg Marcy

Graduating from Clemson University with a degree in architecture, Greg has had the opportunity to work in local architecture firms before branching out on on his own. He has enjoyed designing and working with clients one-on-one on both residential and commercial projects for the past 14 years. He is currently the owner at Greg Marcy Design and Drafting in Columbia SC.

Consulted Civil Engineer As needed: Scott Caldwell

As the owner of Caldwell Design & Engineering, Scott provides site design, grading, stormwater, erosion control, utility, and reports for various projects and clients in the civil engineering field. Scott has over eight years of experience in this field, working with different state agencies, municipalities, and private contractors.
